Carl Arntzen, CEO of Worcester Bosch, was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from Birmingham City University (BCU) for his contributions to fostering diversity and inclusion in engineering. The recognition came during a ceremony at Birmingham Symphony Hall, presented by BCU’s new chancellor, Ade Adepitan. Carl’s work at Worcester Bosch aims to encourage young women and ethnic minority groups to pursue careers in engineering. He emphasizes the importance of promoting engineering opportunities at a young age, ideally between the ages of 12 and 13. Worcester Bosch has developed children’s books, participated in Lego League events, and engaged STEM ambassadors to inspire young minds. Carl has also been involved with the Greater Birmingham & Solihull Institute of Technology and the global Women In Engineering movement. He recognizes that challenges remain in creating an inclusive profession and stresses the importance of early intervention and sustained focus to address underrepresentation. The Honorary Doctorate has strengthened Carl’s resolve to continue promoting diversity in the engineering field.
