The Airtel Africa Foundation, in partnership with Airtel Nigeria, has launched its Undergraduate Tech Scholarship Programme, aiming to support 100 Nigerian undergraduates. This initiative was announced by the company’s Chairman, Dr. Segun Ogunsanya, during a recent World Press Conference in Lagos. The scholarship programme will provide each recipient with a grant covering tuition, accommodation, study materials, and a stipend from their first year of study through to their final year.
The eligible courses of study for this scholarship include various ICT-related disciplines such as Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, Software Engineering, Cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence, and more. The primary goal of this financial aid is to remove economic barriers, enabling students to focus on their academic and technical achievements in the field of technology.
Dr. Ogunsanya emphasized that the scholarships represent the Foundation’s commitment to breaking down barriers for young Africans, investing in Nigeria’s future tech leaders, and providing them with the necessary resources and confidence to thrive in a digital world. The beneficiaries of this programme will be selected from 100-level students enrolled in approved programmes in participating public universities across the country, including the University of Lagos, the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Ahmadu Bello University, and others.
Airtel Nigeria’s CEO, Dinesh Balsingh, noted that the prioritization of education as a pillar of their social investments is strengthened by these new scholarships. The company has also invested in other initiatives, such as the Reimagine Education Programme in partnership with UNICEF, the Adopt-A-School project, and the Three Million Technical Talent (3MTT) effort of the Federal Government. The undergraduate scholarship is a direct component of the Foundation’s four strategic pillars of Financial Inclusion, Education, Environmental Protection, and Digital Inclusion (FEED).
This initiative demonstrates Airtel Africa Foundation’s commitment to creating opportunities for young Africans, empowering them to pursue their academic and technical ambitions, and shaping the future of the tech industry in Nigeria. By providing financial support to 100 Nigerian undergraduates, the company hopes to equip the next generation of tech leaders with the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in an increasingly digital world.
