Gautam Adani, India’s second-richest person, received a total remuneration of Rs 10.41 crore in the fiscal year ended March 31, 2025. This amount is lower than most of his industry peers and even some of his key executives. Adani drew salaries from two of the nine listed companies in his conglomerate, Adani Enterprises Ltd (AEL) and Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ). His remuneration from AEL was Rs 2.54 crore, including a salary of Rs 2.26 crore and perquisites and allowances of Rs 28 lakh. He also received Rs 7.87 crore from APSEZ, including a salary of Rs 1.8 crore and a commission of Rs 6.07 crore.

Adani’s remuneration is significantly lower than that of other top executives in India. For example, Sunil Bharti Mittal, the telecom czar, received Rs 32.27 crore in 2023-24, while Rajiv Bajaj and Pawan Munjal received Rs 53.75 crore and Rs 109 crore, respectively, in the same year. Even some of Adani’s own executives, such as AEL CEO Vinay Prakash, who received Rs 69.34 crore, and Adani Green Energy Ltd (AGEL) Managing Director Vneet S Jaain, who received Rs 11.23 crore, earned more than Adani.

Adani’s salary is also lower than that of his family members, including his son Karan, who received Rs 7.09 crore from APSEZ, and his brother Rajesh, who earned Rs 9.87 crore from AEL. Other executives in the Adani group, such as Group CFO Jugeshinder Singh and Adani Total Gas CEO Suresh P Manglani, also received significant remuneration.

It’s worth noting that Adani’s net worth is estimated to be around USD 82.5 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaire Index, making him one of the richest people in the world. However, his remuneration is relatively modest compared to his peers. This may be due to the fact that Adani, like other promoters, also earns from dividends paid by the group companies, which can provide a significant source of income. Overall, Adani’s remuneration is a small fraction of his overall wealth, and it’s likely that he earns significantly more from his investments and business interests than from his salary alone.
