The Tata Steel Zoological Park (TSZP) in Jamshedpur has chosen names for its two new Royal Bengal tigers through a public naming contest. The contest, which received 318 entries, was held from March 21 to 24 and was initiated by the zoo authorities. The names of the tigers, a male and a female, were selected by a special committee based on relevance and significance.
The winning names are “Rudra” for the male tiger and “Meghna” for the female tiger. The winner of the contest, Sahil Sharma, suggested the name “Rudra”. Interestingly, the name “Rudra” was also chosen by 10 other participants, and all of them will be invited to the unveiling of the new tiger enclosure on April 21.
Sahil Sharma, who won the contest, will also get an exclusive chance to take close-up photographs of the tigers. The two tigers were brought to the TSZP from the Gorewada Safari International Zoo in Nagpur as part of an animal exchange program on March 13.
