According to the Bosch Tech Compass 2024 survey, 89% of Indian respondents believe AI will play a vital role in everyday life in the near future. India is ahead of both Europe and the United States in grassroots AI literacy, with 59% of Indians either self-learning or enrolled in basic AI courses.
Education is a key factor in India’s AI preparedness, with 60% of respondents believing the government should spearhead efforts to mainstream AI education. Schools and universities are already equipping students with AI skills, and the Tamil Nadu government has announced plans to introduce AI and coding into the school curriculum for classes 6 to 9. Other states, such as Kerala, Karnataka, and Telangana, are also integrating AI into government schools to enhance educational outcomes.
India’s optimism about AI’s potential impact is also notable, with 84% of respondents believing technology will make the world a better place. However, there are also concerns about the ethical and social complexities surrounding AI, including job displacement, plagiarism, and widening social inequality.
Despite these concerns, India is poised to become a global leader in AI-powered transformation. The country’s unique blend of pragmatism and ambition is driving innovation and governance, with the government and private sector working together to develop AI literacy, infrastructure, and frameworks. As AI reshapes industries and societies, India’s proactive approach is positioning the country for success in the coming decade.
