Tata Power’s Solar manufacturing arm has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Guidance Tamil Nadu and the Directorate of Technical Education (DoTE) to introduce the “Diploma in Renewable Energy” course, a pioneering initiative aimed at developing a skilled workforce for India’s rapidly growing clean energy sector. The program is designed to train students in the “Earn While Learn” model, offering a unique blend of academic learning and industry training.

The three-year program combines theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience, with students spending three months in the classroom and nine months in practical training with industry experts. Throughout the course, students will receive a monthly stipend, providing financial support while they develop essential skills for their careers. The program will commence in the academic year 2025-26 across select Government Polytechnic Colleges in Tamil Nadu, with 240 students admitted in key districts.

The Diploma in Renewable Energy program aims to enhance employability and meet the growing demand for skilled workers in the renewable energy sector. With the Indian government’s push for clean energy, the need for trained personnel is set to peak, and this program is a step in the right direction. The initiative is a much-needed effort that should be replicated across the country to address the shortage of skilled workers in the sector.
