Ambuja Cements, a cement and building material company, has introduced a soil conservation initiative in the dry regions of Jiwati Taluka, Nagpur, and Chandrapur, through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts. The program aimed to combat soil erosion, water scarcity, and low farm yields by introducing terrace farming. This innovative approach has enabled 15 farmers to convert 6 hectares of barren land into fertile fields.
One of the beneficiaries, farmer Ananadrao Kodape, had been struggling to cultivate his uneven land. With the support of Ambuja Cements’ CSR team, he adopted terrace farming, which improved soil moisture retention and allowed him to grow a diverse range of crops. As a result, his income doubled from Rs. 16,250 to Rs. 34,880. His success has also attracted government support, with subsidies for advanced farming infrastructure.
Ambuja Cements’ CSR initiative is not only helping farmers but also reinforcing the company’s commitment to sustainable rural development. By promoting sustainable farming practices, they are transforming arid landscapes into thriving agricultural hubs, securing livelihoods, and empowering rural communities. This initiative is a testament to the company’s dedication to making a positive impact in the regions where they operate.
