Vedanta Aluminium, a leading aluminum producer, has announced an innovative initiative to exclusively operate and maintain one of its smelter lines at Jharsuguda, Odisha, with a team of women employees. The project, which will be executed in three phases, aims to ensure a seamless transition by providing specialized on-the-job training to the selected employees.
The initiative, which is expected to break industry stereotypes, will see over 100 duty positions filled across various levels, expertise, and competencies. The employees selected for the project have been chosen from across the smelter and other business units through internal job postings, diversity connect programs, and information dissemination initiatives.
Vedanta Aluminium is committed to creating a future-ready, equitable workplace and has set a goal to achieve 30% women workforce representation by FY2030. The company prioritizes 50% women hiring for fresher roles and has launched several initiatives to enhance female participation in the metals and mining industry, including “Shree Shakti” and “Panchhi” projects.
According to Sunil Gupta, Chief Operating Officer, “Diversity and inclusion are key drivers of innovation and operational excellence. By empowering women with greater opportunities in core manufacturing roles, we are not only breaking industry stereotypes but also creating an equitable, future-ready workplace.” Pankaj Sureka, Chief Human Resource Officer, added that the company believes in the philosophy of “Shakti se Pragati” (progress through empowerment) and is creating equal opportunities for women to lead across all functions, from shop floors to leadership roles.
