The 8th convocation ceremony of Disha, a program aimed at empowering women and promoting gender equality, was held in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand. A total of 545 women participated in the ceremony, marking a significant milestone in the program’s journey. Launched in 2022, Disha aims to transform 6,000 women into changemakers in their respective ecosystems over the next five years through comprehensive social, political, and digital empowerment.
The program, supported by Tata Steel Foundation, focuses on enhancing leadership skills, instilling confidence, and promoting active participation in social institutions. It provides a series of six task-based trainings each year, covering vital aspects such as leadership, conflict resolution, gender mainstreaming, formal literacy, and digital literacy. By equipping women with these skills, Disha aims to empower them to assume strategic positions in society, champion human rights, gender equality, and developmental issues.
Sourav Roy, CEO of Tata Steel Foundation, addressed the gathering, highlighting the progress made by women from grassroots communities in Jharkhand and Odisha. He emphasized that Disha is not just about economic decision-making but about realizing one’s potential and adding value to others’ lives. The program has already enrolled over 7,000 women, with 5,342 having graduated, and aims to continue its mission to promote an enlightened and equitable society.
