Residents of Siddharth Colony in Chembur East, Mumbai, held a protest against Adani Electricity on Sunday, demanding the removal of the power supplier. The protesters, who carried placards, alleged that Adani Electricity has been generating escalated power bills to recover dues. The colony has been in dispute with the power supplier for over 20 years, with the electricity bills dues amounting to around Rs 120 crore, including charges approved by the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission. The residents demanded the waiving of interest on pending dues and claimed that Adani Electricity staff do not record electricity meters in the colony, making the bills inaccurate. The Chembur police station has deployed staff to maintain law and order. Adani Electricity’s communication department said they would comment on the issue after taking updates on the protest.
