The naming of roundabouts in Jamshedpur, India has become a contentious issue, with political interference and a lack of regulatory control. Several instances of unauthorized renaming of roundabouts have raised concerns about the lack of a structured approval process. Examples include the renaming of the Baridih Roundabout to “Konka Kamar Karmali Chowk” and the Bistupur Talwar Building Chowk to “Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Munda Chowk”. The administration has remained silent on the matter, while Tata Steel, which is responsible for many of the roundabouts, has not commented. The lack of oversight has led to a trend of local groups and individuals taking matters into their own hands, naming roundabouts after their preferred figures without permission. This has resulted in a muddled and divided city, with conflicting views on the naming of public spaces. The issue has sparked controversy, with some advocating for a structured approval process and others pushing for the naming of roundabouts based on local preferences.
