Tata Steel’s CEO, TV Narendran, inspected Battery No. 7 at the company’s coke plant, which is set to cease operations on January 27. The 36-year-old battery, Asia’s first stamp charge battery, has an annual capacity of 0.25 million tons and employs around 250 workers. Narendran’s visit was an emergency scenario, with all employees evacuating the area. The inspection team reviewed the battery’s condition and discussed its transition. This marks the latest move in Tata Steel’s efforts to modernize its operations by phasing out outdated infrastructure. The company has previously shut down Batteries 5 and 6, which were replaced by a planned state-of-the-art Battery 6 project, although no progress has been made on this front in over a year. The closure of Battery No. 7 is a significant step towards upgrading the coke plant’s facilities, as Narendran and his team work to ensure a seamless transition for employees and the company’s overall operations.
