A resident of Ludhiana, Jagdish Lal, was duped of Rs 1.12 crore by a group of individuals who posed as employees of Tata Steel and provided forged documents for a land deal. The accused claimed to be looking for land for a new Tata Steel unit and promised the victim a lucrative deal. The victim was approached by Baba Jaswant Singh, who claimed to have connections with senior officials at Tata Steel. He introduced the victim to other accused, including Daler Singh, who said that Tata Steel needed a large chunk of land in the Ludhiana-Rajpura region. The accused promised the victim a hefty commission to facilitate the purchase of the land. The investigation is being led by ASI Sunil Kumar and the accused are facing charges under various IPC sections.
