On April 22, 2008, Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh visited Jamshedpur to participate in Tata Steel’s Centenary celebrations. The event began with the Prime Minister planting a banyan tree sapling, which he dedicated to the citizens of Jamshedpur. In his welcome address, Tata Steel’s Managing Director B Muthuraman thanked the Prime Minister for his presence and emphasized that Tata Steel is not just a steel company, but a state of mind that makes it different. Muthuraman highlighted the company’s sustainable growth over the past century and its commitment to serving the cause of India. The Prime Minister praised Tata Steel as a symbol of Indian industry’s growth and emphasized its leadership role in steel making. He unveiled a postage stamp created by the Government of India to commemorate the centenary and wished Tata Steel another 100 years of progress and prosperity.
