The US Commerce Department has signed a preliminary agreement with Bosch, a global auto supplier, to provide $225 million to expand its manufacturing facility in Roseville, California. This investment aims to incentivize domestic manufacturing growth in the US, creating over 1,000 anticipated jobs. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo believes that this expansion will improve the country’s supply chain security, as silicon carbide (SiC) chips are crucial for the automotive, telecommunications, and defense industries. The chips are energy-efficient, and the expansion will enable the US to produce more domestically. The Commerce Department is seeking to strengthen domestic production of semiconductors, and the project is expected to be a significant step in achieving this goal.
