The Tata Steel Nibandhit Karmachari Putra Sangh (affiliated with the Indian unorganized workers’ movement) submitted a memorandum to the East Singhbhum Deputy Commissioner on December 27. The organization expressed discontent with Tata Steel’s failure to adhere to recruitment and welfare commitments, specifically the reservation policy for registered wards. The Sangh alleged that Dalit and Adivasi sanitation workers’ wards are being unfairly labeled as “unqualified” and that their rights are being disregarded. The organization also raised concerns about tariff collections for water and electricity in sanitation workers’ bustees, which they claim violate commitments made under standing orders, reservation policy, and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) norms. The Sangh is seeking the halt of Tata Steel’s lease renewal until these demands are met, given their repeated but ignored attempts to resolve the matter amicably. The memorandum was officially received by the Deputy Commissioner’s office, and the Sangh is awaiting a response from the administration, emphasizing the importance of justice for the affected wards and sanitation workers.
