Sudha, a prominent Indian woman and philanthropist, explained that her choice stems from her commitment to preserving Sanskrit traditions, as “Murthy” means “statue” in Sanskrit and the correct pronunciation is “Murty”. This preference dates back to her university days and was agreed upon as part of their marriage agreement. Their children, Akshata and Rohan, also carry the surname “Murty”. Narayana Murthy described himself as open-minded about the matter and emphasized the importance of mutual respect in their relationship.
