Bosch is investing $1.9 billion in its facility in Roseville, California, to upgrade it into a silicon carbide (SiC) semiconductor facility. The company has entered into a preliminary agreement with the US Department of Commerce for $225 million in direct funding and plans to start producing SiC chips by 2026. The investment aims to enhance domestic semiconductor manufacturing and support the growth of electric vehicles. The roseville facility currently employs around 250 staff members but is expected to grow jobs significantly. Bosch has confirmed that it will retain existing employees and provide them with advanced training to prepare them for the new technologies being implemented. Additionally, Bose has committed to a grant of $100,000 to support vocational programs at Sierra College Foundation to cultivate talented professionals in the semiconductor industry. The investment is strategically important for Bosch’s manufacturing capabilities and for the nation’s semiconductor industry, fostering innovation and job creation at the local level. However, it also carries its own set of challenges.
