General Motors (GM) has issued a recall of approximately 600,000 vehicles due to a potential engine failure risk. The affected models include certain Cadillac, Chevrolet, and GMC cars from various model years. According to the company, the recall is necessary to address a problem with the engine’s valve lifter, which may cause the engine to stall or fail, potentially leading to a crash.

The recall affects vehicles equipped with GM’s 5.3-liter and 6.2-liter V8 engines, which were manufactured between 2014 and 2019. The specific models included in the recall are:

* 2014-2016 Cadillac CTS
* 2015-2017 Cadillac Escalade
* 2014-2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
* 2015-2018 Chevrolet Suburban
* 2015-2018 Chevrolet Tahoe
* 2014-2018 GMC Sierra 1500
* 2015-2018 GMC Yukon

The problem with the engine’s valve lifter is caused by a manufacturing defect, which can lead to the lifter becoming stuck, resulting in engine failure. If the engine fails while the vehicle is in operation, it can increase the risk of a crash, particularly if the vehicle is traveling at high speeds.

GM has stated that it will notify affected vehicle owners and instruct them to take their vehicles to a dealership for repairs. The dealer will replace the valve lifter and update the engine control module software, free of charge. The company estimates that the repair will take approximately 2-3 hours to complete.

The recall is expected to begin in mid-March, with owners receiving notification letters in the mail. In the meantime, GM is advising vehicle owners to monitor their engine’s performance and watch for any signs of engine failure, such as a loss of power or unusual noises. If an owner experiences any of these symptoms, they are advised to pull over and turn off the engine as soon as it is safe to do so.

This recall is a significant one for GM, and the company is taking steps to ensure that all affected vehicles are repaired as quickly as possible. Vehicle owners who are concerned about their vehicle’s safety can check the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website to see if their vehicle is included in the recall. Additionally, GM has set up a dedicated website and phone line for owners to contact with questions or concerns about the recall.
