The Senate Committee on Industry and National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) recently visited assembly plants in Lagos to inspect the automotive industry and identify areas where laws can be enacted to reduce the cost of assembling vehicles in Nigeria. The committee, led by Senator Shuaibu Lau, met with the management of Dangote Sinotruk West Africa Limited, Nord Automobiles, and Simba TVS. The committee aims to create job opportunities and stimulate the economy by addressing issues such as backward integration, workers’ welfare, and pricing. NADDC Director-General Oluwemimo Joseph Osanipin expressed satisfaction with the visit and said the committee will return in the first quarter of next year to assess improvements in local component usage, job creation, and compliance with backward integration. The senator noted that the committee will work to create laws to help reduce production costs and improve the auto industry’s performance.
The Senate commits to fostering legislation that aims to decrease vehicle assembly expenses for the auto industry.
